['Well. It sure got cold pretty fast, huh? Which means that I'm rapidly approaching the one-year mark, so I should really be proud. Or something. After burrowing myself away to avoid complications from refugees, my antisociality has reached a certain limit.

Unfortunately, I also have nothing to contribute beyond the observation about the weather which I already blithely used up there! Not that people can read my thoughts, but if they could, they'd find out. Well, they'd find out a lot of things. But who would want to anyway? It would just go on and on without any point.

Anyway, I guess I'll poorly disguise my attempt to see who's up for a random conversation with some kind of opener. Hey, if I were at home, this would be a mind-scarring Omegle session or something. At least I'm pretty sure I won't run into the usual problems stranger-chatting over the journal.'

So I found this in a book the other day.



Maybe this doesn't work as well over the journal, but I thought it was cool, anyway. Or at least different from discussions about fire and eternal suffering, continued kidnapping, disappearance, reappearance, cross-dressing, and so on.

I was thinking survival of certain death, defeating armies of hell monsters, making it for fifteen years in Luceti, that kind of thing.

[ well. it's almost common knowledge, so: ] I've died, already. Twice, actually.

But I bet you've been on the brink of death way more times. Two out of five hundred is still beating the odds to me.

...I guess that depends on how you define the brink.

Anywhere within a hundred feet of the edge.

Because I'm usually very good at winning. Ducking, dodging, jumping, et cetera.

Right. But I think for most people, you would still include any encounter with various hellspawn as being in danger of being killed at any time, right? So you made it through a whole bunch.

As ever, you earn a gold star in making me feel good about myself. I should pay you.

I wouldn't say no. You know, if currency was a thing.

But, hey, you're a good friend. And it's true.

I thought about it, by the way. The teaching thing.

Oh, you did? Good thing I just buttered you up, then.

[ whyever not? jack had said. and then had muttered something in her ear about kyon practically being a pirate already. she hadn't understood that bit. but... ]

When can you start?

Uhh. Pretty much whenever. That's a yes? Thanks, Buffy.

It's a conditional yes. Depending on how the first few sessions go.

Well, yeah, sure, all right, Ms. Summers.

[herotypical]

Oh my God. No. Keep calling me Buffy. That's an order.

Well, jeez, okay then, Ms. Buffy.

...Brat.

[He laughs.]

You know, it's unusual enough to be calling you Buffy at all. I actually usually only call Haruhi by her first name. And it is ... not a sign of respect.

['Except kind of sort of weirdly.']

[herotypical]

Well? It's a sign of respect to me. Anyone who knows that I've kicked the bucket should have the right to use my first name, don't you think?

Yeah, yeah, I got it. I'm sticking to it, too. Buffy.



...Maybe I'll throw in a "Mrs. Sparrow" from time to time.
