10 ~ comparing those worlds to this boring, normal life [audio/picture]

['Well. It sure got cold pretty fast, huh? Which means that I'm rapidly approaching the one-year mark, so I should really be proud. Or something. After burrowing myself away to avoid complications from refugees, my antisociality has reached a certain limit.

Unfortunately, I also have nothing to contribute beyond the observation about the weather which I already blithely used up there! Not that people can read my thoughts, but if they could, they'd find out. Well, they'd find out a lot of things. But who would want to anyway? It would just go on and on without any point.

Anyway, I guess I'll poorly disguise my attempt to see who's up for a random conversation with some kind of opener. Hey, if I were at home, this would be a mind-scarring Omegle session or something. At least I'm pretty sure I won't run into the usual problems stranger-chatting over the journal.'

So I found this in a book the other day.

Maybe this doesn't work as well over the journal, but I thought it was cool, anyway. Or at least different from discussions about fire and eternal suffering, continued kidnapping, disappearance, reappearance, cross-dressing, and so on.

Well gosh, I'd have thought cross-dressing would be right up there along with not-so-unpleasant conversations. Instead you just come along and post some... [Now that she's actually looking at the picture:] really... unsettling pictures of old ladies.

It's an optical illusion, not just a picture of an old lady.

I'm not saying I like or dislike it! I'm just defending it's honor. Or something.

But this picture's got an illusion, huh? So there's something else I'm supposed to see... [Peeeeering down at it. Closely. Her hair is getting all up in the camera.] ...you mean the weird man-faced-lion-skull-thing the tree and everything makes?

One doesn't usually defend the honor of things one doesn't like.

But, uh, the face is supposed to be the illusion. The scene itself, with the tree and stuff, is the other picture, yeah.

It's not a very good one. It barely looks like a face! I noticed the creepy little girl being chased by a banana slug in the tree trunk before I saw that.

Do I look like a zoologist to you? No one's seen a bear in years where I come from. How would I know a panda from a-- whatever kind of bears there are?

Okay, let's leave the ursology to one side... Those things, uh, aren't supposed to be in the picture, I'm preetty sure.

Well, maybe they should be! They're much more exciting than some boring-old face, right?

I can't argue with that. Maybe you should just draw the next one yourself.

Why not? If you can see things so accurately in pictures, that's gotta be half the battle.

...Though I have to say, the princesses seem to be facing away from the castle. Maybe they're leaving the castle instead? Oh, or maybe there's actually three ways to think of it. Princesses going to the castle, princesses coming from the castle, or the misshapen cat.
