Feel free to get in contact with me here, if you have comments on my portrayal of Kyon or otherwise.

And just to clarify typography in his tags which may be confusing:

Normal text is speech.
[Action brackets are what they usually are.]
['Small italics in single quotes'] represent Kyon's internal narration, a prominent feature of his in canon. Usually commentary.

And if you ever have the misfortune of writing prose with me, you may notice that it switches tenses and POV, to some extent, e.g.:

For some reason, Kyon preferred that someone this persistent would just have his nickname. "Kyon," he said. "At least, that's what people call me." Is that what assassins say about their names, too?

I'm adopting this system because of his narration style in canon (which is first person and doesn't always differentiate between thoughts and speech--though I won't do that latter part), but if you'd prefer more straightforward tags (without narration) just let me know here.

This post is Kyon's IC contact, whether via the journal, notes, or action. This can be used for personal conversations, for continuation of action threads, or minor IC interactions.

Please specify the method and date in the subject.

['Well, that was a first. Not the pleasant kind of first, either. ... Not that I meant the other kind of first was that kind of first.

Let's move on. I've seen people come back from these things in way worse shape before, which doesn't do much to bring down the soreness. Still, I guess it's not the worst thing that could have happened. Then again, who wants to think about the worst thing that could have happened?
'

And so Kyon drags himself back through the village, not visibly injured but still walking very gingerly and strangely and occasionally wincing. He's going into the library, which happens to be nearby, and lying down on a couch, where he just sits for a while.

At length, he pulls out his journal, flips through it briefly, notes the date, and winces. Then, after another while, he turns to a new page and writes:]

So what's new? Everyone already gotten or given their chocolate? Luceti Lonely Hearts Club, also known as most of the population, trucking along pretty well, or has that status changed thanks to our generous lords and masters?

[Eventually he'll catch wind of the hot springs event and drag himself over there, instead.

[The written portion of this message consists of a flyer, not exactly messily, but nevertheless somehow a little slovenly, as if the writer's soul were treating its subject with a heavy dose of veiled sarcasm and it seeped into the writing somehow. It is also being read out loud by Kyon concurrently as it appears on the page.]

Are you a ninja, pirate, dodgeball player, or particularly earnest observer of Japanese holidays for five-year-old girls? ['And she calls me a lolicon... Which reminds me.'] By the way, not you, Aikawa. Anyway--

Is there anyone in Luceti whose face you want to smash a water balloon against?

Do you just generally love war?

If so, be sure to attend the SOS Brigade's "Pirates vs. Ninjas" Dodgeball Extravaganza. Or maybe it's not an Extravaganza. Well, I'm sure even if it's not officially, it still has Extravaganza-Like Components and is extravagant.

That's Thursday, November 15th. Save the date, or alternatively wander by the Barracks, if you elect to be a pirate, where their home base is located, or by the first floor of Community Building 1, which is ninja headquarters, and I'm sure someone will splatter you.

And, yeah. Like I said, it's doubling... somehow... as a celebration of Shichi-Go-San. Those interested in celebrating being three, five, or seven years old should also attend. Questions can be directed here... and I'm sure Haruhi will see them.

[As for action, he can be found passing out more of these flyers in person in the plaza, either on the 13th or the 14th in the day, mumbling something to himself about a hell of a way to spend an anniversary.]

['Well. It sure got cold pretty fast, huh? Which means that I'm rapidly approaching the one-year mark, so I should really be proud. Or something. After burrowing myself away to avoid complications from refugees, my antisociality has reached a certain limit.

Unfortunately, I also have nothing to contribute beyond the observation about the weather which I already blithely used up there! Not that people can read my thoughts, but if they could, they'd find out. Well, they'd find out a lot of things. But who would want to anyway? It would just go on and on without any point.

Anyway, I guess I'll poorly disguise my attempt to see who's up for a random conversation with some kind of opener. Hey, if I were at home, this would be a mind-scarring Omegle session or something. At least I'm pretty sure I won't run into the usual problems stranger-chatting over the journal.
'

...and so:]

So I found this in a book the other day.

So, more New Feathers coming. Guess I'll first point out Maebara's helpful five-hour lecture on the SOS Brigade, for the new people. Welcome to Luceti, get ready for weird, et cetera.

But really, isn't it weirder how it works for us "Old, Slightly Decaying Feathers" than the new ones? After all, we keep seeing the same thing over and over. The shine's totally gone. All the New Feathers get to wake up confused with something new and surprising, and ask all the same questions about what this place is, and they, obviously, never get tired of it.

Whereas those of us who've been here a while just treat it as ordinary life, and are quite tired of explaining, and, hell, wrote a book on the topic. Even the mix is usually kind of the same, right? A few cute girls, a few brooding guys, random stuff in between. Usually one talking animal.

And I haven't even been here a quarter as long as some of us.

Anyway. It's a fair question if there's a "point" to this. I guess the question is, what would you say to a New Feather, as an Old Feather, as far as what to appreciate about the whole entry experience?

[action]

[After finishing that rather off-target ramble, Kyon will go for an off-target ramble of the physical variety, wandering around the general store for the afternoon and then sitting in the library... falling asleep.]
menial: (chibinsane)
[voice, 5/29]

[First there's a thud, a yelp, and then a slightly panicked-sounding, and finally a much higher-pitched voice.]

What do I have to do, cut these off?!

['Or maybe that would be a bad idea if and when I get back to normal?! I shudder to think what might be cut off in their place.'

Kyon has seen and heard the results of enough dropped journals to immediately spot the telltale journal on the floor, wide open.]

Of course it would be...

[So what is there to do but sigh and get back to freaking out?]

[action, 5/30-5/31]

[Thereafter, you will find a somewhat flat-chested girl who looks rather moody wandering around town, stopping in the tea shop, by Brigade HQ, and just in the square, staring at whatever insanity is going on.

'My only major consolation here is that others will probably not recognize me, either...']

[action, 6/1]: on the log -- couples' mask

[action, 6/2-6/3]

[But if you run into Kyon(ko) on these days, you'll find that (s)he has now settled into this role. In fact, she seems to be no longer glum at all, but with maybe a decided smirk. Yes, Villain Kyonko is here, everyone fear while she... well, mostly insults everyone. But she can do evil things too!

In fact, after a bit of effort, she's done such things as glued a shiny-looking gold coin to the ground, put sharp tacks on the ground to step on, removed some of the supports of a bridge so it might collapse at any second...

Yeah, seriously evil stuff this girl is up to.]

[ooc: replies from a Kyonko account I have borrowed, [personal profile] chestless!]
menial: (& you don't say)
To those that knew it, it looks like the crazy RPG hit-points-and-magic stuff has gone home. Sorry for those who were close to it. I don't think it left any notes or belongings for anyone, but I'm sure it'll be better off where it came from.

['What a cartoonish Shift this was. Not that I will ever forget my valorous deeds, but can we get back to ... Actually, forget it. Nothing serious. If more Shifts that are par for the Haruhi-course happen, it can only be a good thing.']

Seriously -- everyone all right out there? Sounds like a more than average number of people have been leaving fair Luceti lately. Though I guess variation is itself average, in said fair Luceti.

...Anyone know where the name "Luceti" comes from, anyway?

['...You know what, I'd better stop rambling right there.']
menial: (* blank)

It seems Asahina Mikuru-san has returned home, just so that those of you who knew her while she was here know.

['My heart is heavy indeed. True, I'm not sure if I could've handled any more Valentine's Day surprise relationships, with other women or otherwise, but much as Asahina-san was probably inconvenienced by being here, I am unfortunately the one left behind.

Haruhi's away now, too, on a mission. So I suppose there's Nagato. I wonder what's up with all these sporadic appearances and disappearances... But I have the explanation, after all, and I just can't do anything about it. Great.'
]

[action]

[As a result, you may find Kyon sitting around in the library or in the tea shop today, writing down some stuff in a (different) journal, looking a bit chagrined, with a faraway expression.]
menial: (% who cares?)
['Well, it's been a while since Valentine's. Maybe I can show my face on the journal again. Well, so to speak. My tiny icon. Whatever. After having laid low for a while, it should be safe, right?'

And so this rather lackadaisical message appears on the journal.]

Has anyone ever had that feeling where you anticipate something bad happening for a while, but when it actually comes to pass, it's just confusing instead? And then disappointing.

Actually, I guess that would be a good way to describe everything... simply confusing. Anyway. I guess there are New Feathers coming around here, too. My advice for you would be to suspend disbelief and just move on with your life as soon as you can. Helpful, I know. Well, good luck.

Oh, and I guess Haruhi would want me to say... if you need to talk about your problems, the SOS Brigade is here. So there's that.

Well, I hope everyone I haven't talked to in a while is okay and all that, and later.
menial: (& eyebrow quirk)
...So, it's getting close to the end of the month again, but nothing weird seems to be happening. Or am I missing something? Anyone know if we might just be getting a reprieve or something? Or maybe I just shouldn't look the gift horse in the mouth.

['Because I don't believe in the Malnosso being Santa Claus to us.'

However, that's not the main purpose for this post; instead, he goes on with a filter he worked for a while on. Ideally, Asakura won't suspect it at all.]

[filtered to Shiki, Minato, Winry, Rise, SOS Brigade members who have interacted with him before, and other close-enough CR (PM me if you're not sure) // 55%]

Yo. If you guys have seen a girl with blue hair who smiles a lot, by the name of Ryoko Asakura... Well, I guess I've got something to ask of you if you do attract her attention, but I'd rather not put it on the journal, so please talk to me if you've met her.

['So what if that makes it seem like I might have a crush on her? Better that than someone hacks it and realizes that I know what Asakura is.']
menial: (& pensive)
['December 18th. According to this calendar, anyway. My body calendar, if such a thing exists, is stuck somewhere in the limbo between May and December. If I'm expecting the world to change again, it should be today, shouldn't it?

...Tch, that's a stupid hope. I haven't heard anything from the other Brigade members, Haruhi evidently hasn't either, and all in all, this anniversary is coming a lot earlier than I'd hoped. Though even if it had been a year later, it would've been earlier than I'd hoped.

There must be something about this season that inspires all this melancholy...'
]

[voice; filtered away from Haruhi // 40%]

Yo. Quick question, I guess... Was anyone here ever in a different world from their home before they came here? Or an alternate version of their world or anything like that.

[He starts to think that that might be a bit of a giveaway.] Sorry if someone's asked that before. Guess I'm wondering if anyone figured anything out about traveling between dimensions or whatever before they came here.

[action]

[And, no longer content to sit in his house on a day like this, still looking for some kind of hint or anything like that, he can be found in the library, pulling down book by book methodically and... not reading them, just flipping through them very quickly, apparently looking for something.

Or, afterwards, trudging aimlessly through the plaza with a discontent expression.]
menial: (~ what.)
['End of the month. Check. Strange things appearing for no reason. Check. This would be, if I had the choice, the part where I run and hide from the experiment. However, the content that appeared is just bizarre.']

[audio]

"A fart will follow you into the car, ruining your date."

This sounds like one of those bad Western comedies. You know, the ones with lazy slacker heroes who're forced into wacky adventures...

['Wait, if I had to honestly describe my own life... As they say at home, the eye wax laughing at the snot*.'

And so he decides to leave it at that.]

[action]

[Today, then, Kyon will be found wandering around in the Welcome Center and the plaza, annoyed, because, quite according to the horoscope, his keys are missing.

'This does not bode well. Well, I guess "against all odds, you will accomplish a basic task" isn't ominous so much as simply insulting. But "you will have a chance encounter with romance today so take a bath, for God's sake"... That one could be problematic. In all kinds of ways.']

[*ooc: Japanese idiom, something like "the pot calling the kettle black".]
menial: (@ you're kidding)
[action]

[A teenage boy is extricating himself with some difficulty from having been dumped, or appearing, in the middle of the fountain in the center of the village. He's muttering to himself and clambering out. He's dressed in the generic-enough North High uniform, but of more interest may be what he's saying -- which is picked up by the split-open journal next to him.]

...Really, Haruhi? After all of that, I'm in some other time and place again?! Oh, boy. She really just doesn't stop... Where the hell is it this time?

[Once he gets up and brushes himself off, he can be found staring with slightly less bewilderment than you might expect at his surroundings.]
